There ought to be a better way to hold onto your settings and essentials when a computer goes belly up.
That is all.

  1. There is, it just doesn’t work very well in Windows. [Computer geek warning.] You just keep all your essential files in a CVS server somewhere on your network. Makes it easy to setup a new computer with all your stuff on it.

  2. Out of curiousity … how do you make sure you have all your config files? Your id setups, your fav urls, or your passwords?

  3. Rsync /home and /etc to a backup server and periodically burn it to DVD 🙂
    (Thank goodness for systems which do not use a registry to store important configuration settings)
